#1) Shoes - Didn't get them fitted, bought nice looking trainers on offer + New fell shoes + new rugby boots

#2) Super Feet! - Don't have insoles

#3) Get outside! - Did a load of treadmill running followed by a lot of running on baked ground

#4) Avoid hills! - See iRoc race for details (http://www.iroc-race.com/)

#5) Get a “running” look over - Ordered my shoes online avoided human contact

#6) To much to soon! - 3 new shoes, ran like a manic in all three

I have something to add... I used to deal with terrible shin splints, so bad that when untreated one became a full-blown stress fracture. I tried all kinds of things to fix it, but the one that I believe is the very most important was increasing my stride rate to 180 steps per minute. This is thought to be the optimal rate, and what it does is significantly reduces your impact on each stride since you're in the air less (many more of these small impacts, of course). It was very hard at first, but I just stared at the treadmill clock or watch and made sure I had 3 steps per second, and picked music that had 180 beats per minute to run to. I haven't had shin issues in 4 years!
